Can wounded hearts that still bleed ever be healed? And can two people broken by their pasts find freedom from their pain in each other?

Or will a night of passion destroy them both?

My Review

I love this series. I loved reading about Jaden and Jules. I think of the series so far these two are my favourite. I loved their relationship. I loved that it was easy. What I loved most about this book was how easy it was to read, I don't mean easy as it was just good, easy as in it flowed seamlessly and before you know it you were at the end. It has the right ingredient of everything to make it work.

I love how this story plays out. We had seen these two characters in the earlier books. Their road to romance isn't easy. Jules went out with Jaden's brother Scratch and when she told him about being pregnant he died.  Two years later Jules has left her abusive ex and is back in her home town. And Jaden's not happy. He blames Jules for Scratch's death.  But underlying all the blame is a deep attraction.

I loved this book. I think this series just gets better and better. With each of these books they can be read as a standalone or as part of the series. Which I recommend you read as part of the series.

This book is amazing. It is exceptionally written. With characters you feel like you have known forever. You feel like you are standing at the side watching it play out. It play out in your head like a film.

I give this 5/5 stars.

Teaser

“I would have given it to you last night. Anything you wanted, you turned those lying innocent eyes on me and I would have fucked you so hard you’d forget all about Scratch.”

“That’s…” I swallowed and his lips grazed the hollow of my throat. “That’s an asshole thing to say, Jaden.”

“I know.” He pulled away, our noses almost touching, our harsh breathing mingling together. “Good thing in the light of day I remember what a selfish, lying killer you are, isn’t it?”

My Review

After being a part of the Blog Tour for Nikki's Debut book Holding Aces, I was eagerly awaiting this book.  And it didn't disappoint. This book is amazing. I couldn't put it down. I read it in one go.

As with Holding Aces This one comes with a warning
*** You need supplies ***

High Stakes starts were Holding Aces finished. I think I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Let me tell you I was shouting at the book the  whole way through. There was plenty of OMG, NOOO, you now the moment in a film when you think the person is going to walk into something or away from someone and you think if you shout run or something they can hear you, well there are plenty of  moments like this the whole way through.

I love the characters in this book Ari and Denham are my favourite. All of the characters fit together seamlessly. The plot is stunningly enthralling. It the book you read through your fingers. It's exceptionally written. It's difficult to remember that this is only the second book written by Nikki Groom, you would think she was a seasoned writer. I can't wait to see what's next.

I give this book 5/5 stars. And 5/5 for movie moments.

Excerpt

“Arianna, dear. It’s nice to see you again.” Amy pushes past my shoulder, inviting herself in and taking ownership of the air around us. “Although, I wasn’t expecting to see so much,” she sneers, letting her eyes drift down the length of my legs.

I stand tall, trying not to be intimidated by her, trying to stand my ground in my apartment, but instantly feeling threatened by the way her body reacts to me, and the way her gaze makes me feel cold and uncomfortable.

She lifts her hand toward me, and tucks a long, red, predatory nail under the collar of the white shirt I am wearing, lifting it between her fingertips and gently brushing against my collarbone through the fabric as she does. It sends chills through me. She’s cold. Her aura, her demeanor, and her intentions are all icy and it radiates from her in steady pulses.

“I bet he likes you in this. I bet he asked you to wear it, am I wrong?”

Of course, she’s not wrong. She’s pretty much as correct as can fucking be. I swallow hard. Shards of her persona stick into me like little icy pins. Her words, like little needles of reality, stab into my veins. She knows him better than I do. She knows what he likes, and what he doesn’t. Has he asked her to wear his shirt for him?
Has he told her to dress in nothing but heels and diamonds for him?
The thoughts make me feel sick. But, I know that she’s playing me. I've seen Denham’s reaction to her. I’ve seen the contempt in his eyes when her name is mentioned, and I’ve felt the tension radiate from him when he encounters her. She’s a bitch. Pure and simple.

       My Review

This is the first time I have read a Victoria Danann novel. If you are looking for a good paranormal read this is it. I thought the story and characters were well written. I really liked this book. It was a very quick read one you could read in an hour.

After becoming Alpha Liuff takes his pack and goes to another world to get away from hunters. After trying to save the daughter of one of the alphas from another pack he has to fight for his life.

I give this 3.5/5 stars
What reviewers are saying about Liulf.

"Victoria Danann has done it once again. I could not put this down until I was finished. It moved along at an amazing pace that was just perfect, the characters will grab you and you cannot help but fall in love with them and the story. Wow, this is an amazing read."- Joy Whiteside

"I got so lost in Luilf's world I forgot mine." - Pam James

"...fulfills that hunky shifter kilt hunger from the get go." - Nelta Mathias Baldwin

"...this is a spin off to (Knights of Black Swan) and I have to tell you I loved it." - Lisa High

"As always Victoria Danann hits it out of the ball park with another amazing story." - Bobbi Kinion

Short Excerpt.

Liulf squatted on the castle parapet with his back to the sound of the ocean crashing against Girnigoe’s black craig cliffs. If he let himself think about the damp cold or the January wind that tried to penetrate flesh and bone, he’d start to shiver in a way that would rack his whole body.... So he’d learned to focus on other things. Looking east, over the land he loved, he felt a sense of pride and history. And memory. In his slightly less than four hundred years, he’d covered every inch of pack territory in wolf form and much of it in biped form as well. He knew he was blessed with good things, but that didn’t fill the underlying emptiness that he couldn’t quite pinpoint. Lack of purpose maybe. There wasn’t much satisfaction in guarding a border without an aggressor.

That very day a wolf had said it was easy for Liulf to make reckless choices because he didn’t have a mate. Liulf had kept his face passive, but inside the words had stung. It wasn’t as if he could control destiny. What Lycan didn’t want to find his mate? Well, perhaps Conn would prefer to be a bachelor wolf forever.
It was true that Liulf could have settled for a bitch who was merely compatible, as most did. But he hadn’t because he knew there was more. There was mating that was, well, magical. He wouldn’t say so out loud because his brothers would never stop razzing him if he did. But he lived with a constant yearning that never subsided, spoken or not.

All the carousing in the world wouldn’t take the edge off his desire. And he should know. All he had to do was keep from cursing the Fates until they saw fit to gift him with the one. The one he knew was out there.

MY NOTE ON LIULF:
A snippet from an early review says: "This is a wonderful off shoot of that series (Knights of Black Swan). In MOONLIGHT, we learned that wolf shifters were having a rough time. Humans were spreading into their lands and using high powered weapons to kill them in wolf form. Towns and cities were destroying the wild areas."
This couldn't be more timely since we learned just 2 weeks ago that the planet has lost HALF of its wildlife in just the past 40 years. Certainly the wildness of werewolves is a metaphor for that part of us that longs for the call of Pan.

USA Today Bestselling Author

2013 Winner in the categories of:
  • BEST PARANORMAL ROMANCE SERIES - Knights of Black Swan
  • BEST PARANORMAL ROMANCE NOVEL (GENERAL) - A Summoner's Tale
  • BEST PARNORMAL ROMANCE NOVEL (Vampires & Shifters) - Moonlight</ li>
My early work (eight-years-old) would be called fan fiction today. I began by writing my version of Bobbsey Twins novels on legal pads that my dad brought home from the office. As an only child - in the days before children became little electronic receivers - there was often not much to do other than seek amusement in my own head.

Childhood fantasies involved being the only girl (for some odd reason) at a ranch for wayward boys. Yes. I do realize this sounds vaguely familiar. T hose fantasies were supported by real life events because the boys included me in the afternoon neighborhood games whether it was cowboy/Indians or G.I. Joe.

When I left the Bobbsey Twins behind I didn't write again until I was married with children and in my mid-twenties. I completed a paranormal romance and gave it to my spouse to read. After hearing his criticisms I didn't write again for decades. At the time I didn't understand that he's the absolute farthest thing from my audience.

It turned out to be a blessing because during that time that I didn't write, I lived an extremely full life. I traveled a lot, raised a family, got an education (I have an M.A. in Psychology.) and explored my compulsion to be a spiritual seeker. The fantasies were a constant companion throughout. The faces and names of the characters changed as I matured, but they remained a source of comfort. T hey helped me through hell raising teenagers and three near-death scares.

By the time I started writing again, I had something to say. I write cross-genre with uniquely fresh perspectives on paranormal creatures, characters, and themes. Add a dash of scifi and a flourish of fantasy to enough humor to make you laugh out loud and enough steam to make you squirm in your chair. My heroines are independent femmes with flaws and minds of their own whether they are aliens, witches, demonologists, psychics, or past life therapists. My heroes are hot and hunky, but they also have brains, character, and good manners - usually - whether they be elves, demons, berserkers, werewolves, or vampires.

If you're interested in me personally, I am also a classically trained musician who defected to Classic Rock. This is Roadhouse, the very best in Classic Rock, taken near The Last Concert Cafe, Houston Texas, 2011. I'm the utility player which means I play rhythm guitar, keyboards, sing back ups and a few leads. I authored and illustrated Seasons of the Witch calendars and planners for fifteen years. I live in T he Woodlands, Texas, which is why I sometimes joke about being the witch in the woods. Married. Four children. One very smart, mostly black German Shepherd dog.

My Review

I finished reading this book a few days ago and I still cant stop thinking about it. BA Wolfe BLEW ME AWAY with her first book AWAY. But let me tell you, with this book I stayed blown away right from the start, from the first page. This is the book I have been waiting to read.  To see how this story would fit into Away. It fits. Perfectly.

I can't tell you anything about this book. Anything I tell you would ruin the story for it. I will tell you this though. You need tissues and lots of them. If you thought Away was emotional, Stay is going to make you drown. I was a big huge crying/sobbing mess, especially since I re-read Away first and went straight into reading Stay.

This book will pull every last drop of your emotions. There are plenty of Noooo, OMG, WTH moments. It's like being on the fastest roller coaster and getting of breathless. That is how this will leave you, breathless, this is a book you will think of over and over again. Each time it will be like you are reading it for the first time.

BA Wolfe, This book is exceptional. It is stunningly brilliant. It is beautifully written. The characters are amazing. When you read this it plays out in your head in vivid colours, in HD, in Dolby surround sound. without a pause button.

This book gets 5/5 stars  and 5/5 for movie moments.

Excerpt
Chapter 1 – One Year Ago

Dan

My hand shot left and landed on the alarm clock, silencing its incessant

beeping. There was no point even setting it. I’d been awake for hours, anyway, but

inside my nerves were having a hay day. Heartbeats thudded against my chest as I

sucked in deep breaths trying to calm myself.

“Fuck it,” I muttered, kicking my heavy comforter off.

I swung my legs over the edge of the bed and ran a hand through my messy

morning hair. My eyes traveled to the phone on my nightstand. I picked it up, sent a

quick message to my brother, then tossed it beside me on the bed and made my way

to the kitchen in nothing but my boxers. After dumping coffee grinds into the maker

and setting the machine to brew, I braced my arms against the white countertop

and stared down mindlessly while I waited. Your brain knew when something was

important. It wouldn’t let you think of anything else. It was all-consuming. Today, it

might just be the death of me.

I filled my lucky Denver Bronco’s mug and paced my way through the house.

Wearing a path in the floor was the only thing slowing my thoughts. I downed a few
sips and stopped in front of a tall bookshelf. A covered box containing all my letters

from Jase was nestled there.

It had started out as a joke, but neither of us could stop writing. I told him

I had a mailbox at college and then every week I had a letter waiting for me. And

every week I’d write him back. I saved them all. His latest had me smiling hard. He

was happy. Really happy—thanks to her. I needed to meet that girl. My eyes caught a

glimpse of the clock; it was nearly time.

I took a shower and slipped on a pair of worn jeans, a plain tee, and my Nikes.

Sucking in a deep breath, I grabbed my keys and left, bracing myself for the day

ahead.

I was only an hour into my drive when the red engine light caught my eye. It
came on every once in a while, so I pushed it to the back of my mind. My foot

pressed a little harder on the gas pedal. As the needle on the speedometer crept

higher, a new light on the dashboard lit up. And then it happened—my car started to

shut down. “Fuck.” I banged my fist at the wheel as the car slowed. But no amount of

banging or cursing helped. I veered to the shoulder of the highway, dodging car after

car. Finally, the piece of crap stopped dead.

“No, no, no. Don’t do this to me now.” I pounded the steering wheel again,

ready to beat it to death. “Not today. Damn it!” I reached for my phone in the cup
holder, dialed the number for Triple A, and within minutes the rep said a tow truck

would be on its way. Estimated time of forty-five minutes. Great.

It was too important of a day to be starting out like this. I only prayed things

turned around.

My Review

This was my Review When I was part of The Away Tour

Cassandra Pierce has a perfect life planned out for her - by her parents. But her perfect life has just got worse and the only thing she does is run to her best friend Melanie who is in college hours and hours away.

Cassandra isn't very good with directions even with a gps. She ends up in the opposite direction going through a small town when she ends up having a blow out in her car and going into a tree.

Jason Bradley has watched everything that happened and goes to help. He become her hero in more than one way..

Wow, Wow, Wow  I loved this story. I loved everything about it. I loved Cassandra's transformation when she's not with her parents. I loved Jason- girls there's a new book boyfriend on the block. Jason is a true gent. He looks after her from day one. I love the way they both have secrets and they have to trust in order to explain. But is it with devastating effects.

I think this quote fits perfectly-

"It was as though his key found the perfect lock to fit into, filling every bit of me as though we were made for each other"

This book is stunning, it compels you to read from the first page. I couldn't put it down. It is an amazingly, Fantastic Read.

This is an amazing debut book by Barbara Wolfe. She is the Author to watch out for in the future.

Barbara thank you for a Fantastic read. This book is Amazing.

This gets 5/5 stars and 5/5 for movie moments.

“Alright.” He raised his brow as he walked over to the nightstand, writing something on the

notepad. “Here’s my cell number, call me if you need anything. I only live about ten minutes

away. Seriously, if you need anything, just use the motel phone.”I took the ripped piece of

paper he handed me. “Thanks.” I knew I needed it so I could talk to him about my car, but that’s

as far as it would go.“I mean it, anything,” he said as he walked to the door, resting his hand

against the frame. “Can I get you something before I leave? Dinner?”

“No, I’m not hungry at all, but thanks for offering. I think I’m ready to get some sleep,” I

admitted.

“I’ll keep you posted about your car,” he said.

“Thanks,” I said, thankful that I would get to see him again, but feeling like a mixed up basket

case for not trusting him. I was a freaking mess.

“Goodnight Cassandra,” he said quietly before closing the door and walking away.

Yeah, right. Goodnight in this place was going to be hard to come by. I locked the door after he

left and walked over to the bed. I drew the covers back and found exactly what I’d pictured...

Stains. Gross. I pulled the covers back over the bed and decided to sleep with a towel over

me instead. I walked into the filthy bathroom, quickly grabbed a towel, and ran back to the

room like a scared child. I put on a pair of yoga pants and a t-shirt and was ready to get some

rest. It had been an unusually long day between the long drive, the accident, and the hospital.

Too exhausted for continued thinking, I let my brain off the hook and laid down on the hard

mattress. As I pulled the towel over my body, I noticed my feet were going to be hanging out all

night. Great.

I gently laid my sore head back onto the pillow and blinked my eyes a few times. I was right.

Sweet dreams were extremely hard to come by in this place, but I tried. I closed my eyes and

fell asleep.

Based on the way I felt the next morning, I’d gotten only a few hours of sleep at the most.

Between the noises, the creaks, and the foul smell, I didn’t know which was worse. That was, by

far, the worst night’s sleep I’ve ever had. The morning sun shone brightly through the yellowed

curtains, and I decided to give up on trying to get any more sleep.

I ripped the towel off of me and was about to put my feet on the floor and there it was. Staring

back at me as if I were invading his turf was an over sized, nasty, grey rat. “OH MY GOD!”

I screamed as I jumped up and stood on the bed, unsure of what to do if he were to start

climbing up. I let out another loud scream as it raised itself up with its beady little eyes staring,

making it scurry off under the bed. This was even worse; now I couldn’t see the damn thing.

I jumped off the bed and collected my belongings faster than I even realized I could. I threw on

a jacket before making a mad dash for the door, slamming it behind me. “Holy shit, that was

gross,” I said breathlessly. I took a moment to compose myself, and to think about what to do

next. I was not going back into that room. That was for certain.

“Are you looking for a place to stay yet?” I heard his familiar voice from afar. I peeked over the

railing, and there he was standing with his arms crossed, wearing a sexy grin, faded jeans, and a

tight white tee.
